PRE PURCHASE SURVEY
A comprehensive marine survey recommended with the purchase of a vessel, in particular of used vessels.
A pre-purchase inspection includes a full out of water inspection of the hull. The inspection may include moisture testing within the laminate as appropriate, or possible given satisfactory conditions. An inspection to ascertain the structural integrity of the hull, rudder and stern gear is also provided. Internally the hull, stringers, G.R.P. bondings and construction are inspected wherever possible. The condition and effectiveness of the cathodic protection is considered. A comprehensive inspection of the accommodation, internal domestic service items and equipment is undertaken. A valuation of the vessel is included in our pre- purchase survey.
It is often considered prudent to couple a sea trial, and engine oil analysis with a pre-purchase survey.
A pre-purchase survey is not a quick inspection. Expect a survey of this nature, including sea trials to take between one day for an approximately 35 ft vessel to approximately 2 days, including sea trials for a vessel of approximately 50 ft. Larger vessels will require additional time.
Please telephone 0870 2416159 to discuss your requirements in more detail.

VALUATION
A valuation includes an inspection in equivalence to a pre-purchase survey in order to establish defects which may or may not effect the value of a vessel. A valuation of the vessel is automatically included in pre-purchase surveys and inspections for insurance purposes.
A valuation of the vessel is on the basis of an open market, defined as being the best price which the title interest may reasonably be expected to obtain on the basis of a sale by private treaty at the date of the valuation.
The valuation is provided at the date of inspection assuming the following :
1/ Willing buyer, willing seller.
2/ Prior to the date of valuation that there hade been a reasonable period(having
regard to the nature of the craft an the state of the market) for the proper
marketing of the interest, for the agreement of price and terms, and for the
completion of the sale.
3/ No additional account is taken of any additional bid by a purchaser with special
interest.
4/ Global, national and local economic conditions being similar to those prevailing
at the time of the survey.

SEA TRIALS
Disciplined sea trials provide the opportunity to test the vessel under load. The performance of the vessel is tested with various manoeuvres, slow and maximum r.p.m. runs. The engine instrumentation, and engines are monitored at regular intervals for possible defects and detrimental indications.
A sea trial normally takes between 1½ to 3 hours depending on conditions, location and vessel.
A sea trial is an opportunity of independent assessment of the vessels performance, prior to ownership.

ENGINE OIL ANALYSIS
We provide analysis of oil samples from main engines, gearbox or generators in order to provide an indication as to the condition of the engine or gearbox. Engine oil analysis is the process of identifying through comprehensive testing of the minute samples of wear metals within a given oil sample, and analysing the results. The samples and results are analysed individually to provide excellent, and meaningful results.
Engine oil analysis is normally provided as an addition to a pre-purchase survey, following a sea trial.
